As you begin to think about automating your stores using PDI/RMS, our automation team can help you decide on training issues, site preparation issues, hardware issues, and other planning items. We can help redesign your Daily Reporting screens as well as your store processes to better utilize the automation.

Point-of-Sale Integration

Part of your store automation project might be to integrate your point-of-sale (POS) devices to your store-level PC. This minimizes the entry time of your staff and eliminates keying errors. If we must develop a specific interface for your POS device, our programming staff will work with the POS vendors and develop the program to allow data to be transferred between the POS device and the PDI/RMS system. Once the interface programming is complete, a consultant will assist you in mapping your Daily Reporting screens to the device file.

Pricebook Implementation

Our pricebook staff can assist you in building your pricebook initially as well as help you develop staff requirements and procedures for on-going pricebook maintenance. Whether you use Data Exchange (D/X) or build your item file from scratch, the pricebook consultants will give you pointers to help you avoid the costly mistakes that others have made.

Scanning Rollout

Many customers confuse a pricebook project with a scanning project. While PDI considers scanning a specific and distinct specialty from pricebook setup, the pricebook consultants will help develop your pricebook with scanning in mind, incorporating UPC codes and receipt item descriptions into the setup. Once the pricebook is complete and downloaded to your locations for receiving by item, our consultants will assist you in pre-scanning your first sites. This final check of the pricebook eliminates surprises involved during customer transactions. PDI can help with project planning guidance as well as scanning implementation assistance.

Programming for Hire

PDI has designated a group of programmers for our customers who need programming services but do not want to invest in hiring the resources themselves. These resources are available on a time and materials basis with proper project approval.

Special Projects for POS Integration — For customers who use POS devices that are not currently supported by PDI, the Automation Services group will provide programming resources to develop the needed interface.
Systems Integration — Many of you, whether your company is large or small, have integration needs. Some of you use a different financial package; others of you send data to ancillary packages for analysis or combined reporting with your parent company. PDI will supply consulting and programming staff to assist in the design and deployment of the integrated systems.
Custom Programming — We prioritize all requests from customers democratically and, as a result, some features never come to the top of the priority list. For customers who want to change the priority of a request, we offer custom programming services.

Even though we will do custom programming, we reserve the right to disapprove of a request if we feel it does not serve the best interest of all of our customers. After the change is made, we will deliver it to the requesting customer and then include the change in the next major release. Once the feature is included in a release, it is available for all customers to use.
